Well Head & Line Location Services

Lost Your Well? We’ll Find It – No Guesswork, No Damage.

If you’re not sure where your wellhead or underground water line is located, you’re not alone. Many older homes have wells that are buried underground, hidden in landscaping, or installed decades ago without clear records.

At Kappus Well Pump & Water System Services, we use advanced electronic locating tools to precisely trace your buried wellhead and water lines – without tearing up your property or digging unnecessary holes.

Why Well Location Services Matter

  • You can’t service or repair a well if you don’t know where it is
  • Buried wells often don’t meet Board of Health requirements
  • Knowing your line path helps when upgrading pumps, tanks, or filtration
  • Helps prevent accidental damage during construction, fencing, or excavation
  • Speeds up diagnostics for pressure issues, line leaks, or frozen sections

Kappus Well Pump & Water System Services "The Pump Man" offers well head and line location services

What We Can Locate

    • Buried Wellheads (even if covered with grass, stone, mulch, or pavement)
    • Water lines from the well to the house
    • Frozen sections during winter (to aid in thawing or replacement)
    • Power lines and control wiring associated with the system
    • Depth & path mapping to support future upgrades or repairs

We can even mark the line path and casing location for future reference – including adding permanent marker flags or painted surface indicators if needed.

What We Use

• Professional-grade electronic pipe and tracer tools
• Signal-injection tools for metallic lines
• Inductive tracing for plastic or non-metallic piping
• No guesswork, no random digging

Common Mistakes to Avoid

• Don’t dig blindly.
Digging to “see if you hit it” can break lines, damage wiring, or make the job 10x worse.

• Don’t rely on old property sketches.
Even official-looking drawings are often off by 10-20 feet or more – especially after landscaping changes or additions.

“We’ve Never Not Found a Well”

It’s true. We’ve located wells in driveways, behind garages, under patios, inside sheds, and even one under a koi pond.

If it’s there, we’ll find it.

Well & Line Location – Frequently Asked Questions

How do you find a buried wellhead?

We use professional electronic locating tools. For metallic lines we inject a signal and trace it from the surface; for plastic or non-metallic piping we use inductive tracing. That lets us pinpoint the wellhead and the line path precisely – without digging test holes or guessing.

Will you have to dig up my yard?

No. The whole point of electronic locating is that we find the well and lines without tearing up your property. Once we’ve traced everything, we can mark the path on the surface so any future digging is precise and safe.

Why can’t I just use my old property survey?

Old surveys and sketches are often off by 10 to 20 feet or more, especially after landscaping, additions, or new driveways. Digging based on a drawing is how lines and wiring get damaged. We locate the real thing as it sits today.

Why would I need my well located?

Common reasons: you’re buying or selling and need the well found for a Board of Health inspection, you’re servicing or upgrading the pump, tank, or filtration, you’re planning construction, fencing, or excavation and need to avoid the lines, or you’re chasing a pressure problem, leak, or frozen section.

Can you mark the well and line for future reference?

Yes. We can add permanent marker flags or painted surface indicators so you, or anyone working on the property later, knows exactly where the wellhead and line path are.

What if you still can’t find it?

In our experience, that hasn’t happened – we’ve found wells in driveways, under patios, inside sheds, and even under a koi pond. If it’s on your property, we have the tools and the experience to locate it.
