Our Story
Over 100 Years of Service. One Mission: Keep the Water Flowing.
From brownstones to well systems – discover how four generations of the Kappus family built the region’s most trusted name in private water system service.

Our family business was founded in 1910 by Charles Frederick Kappus Sr., a master plumber who began by installing plumbing systems in the brownstones of New York City. Over time, the Kappus family followed the region’s growth northward, and in 1974, the business was relocated to Putnam County to meet the increasing demand for plumbing work in Putnam and Westchester counties.
For decades, we worked closely with local builders and contractors, earning a reputation for quality and reliability. When Charles Jr. passed away unexpectedly in 1961, the company was entrusted to his son, David Kappus, who took over at just 18 years old. He carried on the family legacy, maintaining a high standard of plumbing contracting work throughout the region.
Around 1986, Dave—who had a strong technical knowledge of pumps—purchased his first well pump puller, laying the foundation for a major new chapter. He began offering local pump service and plumbing repairs. By 1992, the company officially entered the well pump service business, and “The Pump Man” became part of the business name — quickly becoming a trusted name in the area. With the growth of both the well pump and plumbing repair sides of the business, we incorporated in 1998 as C.F. Kappus Pumps & Plumbing, with Dave and his son Paul Kappus as partners at the helm.
Over time, we transitioned away from new construction plumbing and focused solely on pump repair and plumbing service for private well water systems. The plumbing contracting division and its client accounts were passed to Paul’s brother, David Kappus Jr., who now operates independently under the name CFK Plumbing, based in Dutchess County. The name is a tribute to our great-grandfather, Charles Frederick Kappus.
In 2012, Paul’s father suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed. Paul took full control of the business and, in order to support his family and cover his father’s medical needs, used the internet to promote and grow the business. Within just a few years, the company more than doubled in size and maintained a trusted 5-star reputation for service. By 2020, demand for pump work had grown to the point that we could no longer keep up with plumbing repair calls. In 2022, we made the difficult decision to discontinue plumbing repair services altogether so we could focus exclusively on well pump systems — and give our customers the attention and expertise they deserve.
In 2025, we rebranded as Kappus Well Pump Repair & Water System Services, aligning our name and identity with what we’ve truly become: your local specialist for well pump repair, water filtration, pressure tanks, constant pressure systems, trenchless line replacement, and full water system design and service. Now in our fourth generation of family ownership, we serve homeowners across Putnam, Dutchess, Westchester, Rockland, and Orange Counties. Our history spans more than a century — and our focus today is clear:
We fix water problems. And we do it right.
